Every machine charged to the right job

Hours by job, rentals off-rent on time, service before the move.

An unfinished highway overpass in the desert where the missing deck is a row of heavy machines parked end to end across the gap.
On a civil job the machines are the structure until the structure exists.

A dozer that worked Tuesday on a Rio Rancho subdivision and Thursday on an I-25 interchange should cost both jobs. Gytix reads each machine’s engine hours, splits them by job geofence and puts owned and rented iron on one dispatch board.

Where equipment cost slips between jobs

  • Hours on wrong jobs

Machines move on Friday, timesheets catch up on Wednesday, and hours land wherever the foreman remembers.

  • Rentals left running

The trench box and the extra excavator stay on rent a week after the pipe is in.

  • Service lands mid-move

A wheel loader hits its 500-hour service the same week it rides a lowboy to the next job.

  • Renting while owning

One superintendent rents a compactor while the company’s own sits parked on a job across town.

From yard walk to job cost

  1. Week 1

    Walk yard and jobs

We list every machine, attachment and rental on each active job, with hour meters and cost codes.

  2. Month 1

    Jobs fenced, hours flowing

Gateways on machines without feeds, a geofence per job, and operators inspecting in English or Spanish.

  3. Month 3

    Hours reach job cost

Equipment hours post to job cost every week, and idle machines move before anyone calls for a rental.

Equipment hours, jobs and moves

Hours belong to jobs. On heavy civil and commercial work, equipment is charged by the hour, so each hour has to land on the right job. Gytix draws a geofence around every job and logs each engine hour a machine runs inside it. The hours-by-job report goes to your accounting system weekly by API or scheduled file, with idle hours split out, so the superintendent sees what was paid for and not worked.

Check the yard before renting. Most rentals start with a phone call on a busy morning. Before that call, the dispatch board shows every owned machine of the class you need, where it sits and how many hours it ran this week. A compact track loader idle for five days on the next job over is a cheaper answer than a new rental, and the board shows it at a glance.

Moves without surprises. A move is a lowboy, a driver, a permit check and a machine ready to work when it arrives. New Mexico State Police policy sets the legal width at 8 feet 6 inches and requires an oversize permit for a vehicle and load over 14 feet high, so the board carries each machine’s transport width and height. Services due within 50 hours get done in the yard before the machine ships. The ROI calculator runs your own idle hours and late rental days through the same math.

Contractor questions, answered

Can construction equipment hours be charged to jobs automatically?

Yes. Each job gets a geofence, and every engine hour a machine runs inside it is logged to that job, with idle hours split out. The hours-by-job report exports weekly to your accounting system by API or scheduled file, so the equipment line on the job cost report comes from the engine, not from memory.

Does Gytix track rented equipment alongside our own machines?

Yes. Rental tracking in the Command plan puts every rented excavator, loader and light tower on the same map as your own, with rate, start date and hours. A B1 battery tracker goes on at delivery and comes off at return, ready for the next rental, so each one reports from its first day on the job.

How do we plan machine moves between jobs each week?

On the dispatch board in the Command plan. Drag a machine to next week’s job and the board shows whether a lowboy is booked, whether a service falls due during the move and whether the load needs an oversize permit. When the machine arrives inside the new job’s geofence, its hours start logging to that job.

How is construction fleet software priced?

Per connected machine, per month. The Field plan covers tracking, hours, job geofences and inspections, the Shop plan adds maintenance scheduling, and the Command plan adds dispatch, rentals and fuel. Every plan runs month to month with unlimited users, so every superintendent and foreman gets a login. The written quote after a walkthrough on your own fleet list gives the exact figure.

Will it work with machines from several manufacturers?

Yes. Machines that already report through a manufacturer feed following ISO 15143-3 connect with no new hardware. Older machines and anything without a feed get an A1 gateway, bought once and owned outright, which reads J1939 engine data. Every brand then reports the same fields: location, engine hours, idle hours, fuel used and fault codes.
