Every crew truck ready for the call
Inspections, service and location for every road unit and backhoe.

A co-op line crew can run a bucket truck on the highway, a digger derrick on a county road and a mini excavator in the right-of-way in one day. Gytix keeps their inspections, services and locations in one record, ready for the next outage.
What slows a crew at dispatch
DVIRs in the glovebox
Drivers fill out pre-trip reports on paper, and defects wait in the glovebox until someone files them.
Miles and PTO hours
Bucket trucks wear by miles and PTO hours; backhoes and trenchers wear by engine hours.
Storm calls at night
When the storm hits at 2 a.m., dispatch needs to know which units are inspected, serviced and closest.
Right-of-way sprawl
Water and pipeline crews spread trailers, pumps and generators along miles of right-of-way, out of sight.
What a utility yard connects first
Equipment inspections
Electronic DVIRs and pre-shift checks on a phone, offline, with defects routed to the shop.
Preventive maintenance
Service by miles, engine hours, PTO hours or calendar, including the annual dielectric test.
Dispatch and haul planning
Every crew truck and trailer on one board, by location and readiness, when the outage call comes.
Machinery tracking
Location of every unit across the service territory, with trailers and generators on B1 trackers.
Ready before storm season
- Week 1
List every unit
We walk yards and district offices and list trucks, trailers, backhoes and generators with miles and hours.
- Month 1
DVIRs go digital
Drivers complete pre-trip reports in the app in English or Spanish, and defects open work orders.
- Month 3
Storm board tested
A storm drill on the dispatch board: every unit’s location, last inspection, open defects and crew.
DVIRs, PTO hours and storm season
Road units and off-road iron. A utility fleet is two fleets in one yard. Bucket trucks, digger derricks and service trucks run the highway and need a driver vehicle inspection report. Backhoes, trenchers, mini excavators and vacuum excavators work off-road on engine hours. Gytix holds both in one asset list, with miles, engine hours and PTO hours read from the vehicle where it reports them, so each unit runs the service plan that matches how it wears.
What the DVIR rule says. Federal rule 49 CFR 396.11 governs driver vehicle inspection reports for commercial motor vehicles, and the report may be created and kept in electronic format under 49 CFR 390.32. Gytix’s inspection app records the checklist, defects, photos and the driver’s signature, works offline and runs in English or Spanish. A defect opens a work order for the shop. Confirm what applies to your fleet with your safety officer.
Storm season. When a storm rolls through, the question is which units can roll now. The dispatch board shows every truck and trailer with its location, last inspection, open defects and service due. Before monsoon season or winter, run the board as a drill and clear the services that would fall due mid-outage. Mutual-aid foremen can get logins at no extra cost, because every plan includes unlimited users, so visiting crews see where your trailers and generators are staged without calling the yard.
Utility fleet questions, answered
Can drivers complete DVIRs electronically?
Yes. Federal rule 49 CFR 396.11 governs driver vehicle inspection reports for commercial motor vehicles, and 49 CFR 390.32 allows the report to be created and kept in electronic format. Gytix’s inspection app records the checklist, defects, photos and signature, offline if needed. Confirm your own obligations with your safety officer.
How does utility fleet management software help in storm response?
It shows every crew truck, trailer and generator on one map with its readiness: last inspection, open defects and service due. Dispatchers assign units from the board, and mutual-aid foremen can get their own logins at no extra cost, because every plan includes unlimited users.
Can service intervals run on miles and PTO hours?
Yes. Each unit can run service plans on miles, engine hours, PTO hours or the calendar, whichever comes first. A bucket truck can carry its oil change by miles, its hydraulic service by PTO hours and its annual dielectric test by date, all on one schedule with one work order history.
Does Gytix fit electric co-ops and water utilities?
Yes. It is set up for mixed utility fleets: road units with DVIRs, off-road iron on engine hours, and trailers and generators on battery trackers. Our field crews install in your yard on your schedule, around outage work, across New Mexico, West Texas, El Paso, Arizona and southern Colorado.
How is utility fleet management priced?
Per connected machine, per month. Tracking and inspections are on the Field plan, maintenance scheduling on the Shop plan and dispatch on the Command plan. Trailers and generators on a B1 tracker are billed per asset, and every plan includes unlimited users. The written quote after a walkthrough on your own fleet list gives the exact figure, within two business days.
